Tanzania Safari - lion
Departing form Kenya, you will experience the bustle of Arusha, marvel at Ngorongoro Crater, float through The Serengeti at tree top level, visit Lake Manyara and Tarangire Reserves before returning to Mombasa’s coastal delights. As with all our tours, departure cities / towns can be changed to suit your individual requirements.

Day 1: Mombasa - Arusha

Departing early morning from Mombasa, you’ll journey to the of city, Arusha. Stopping briefly to complete border crossing formalities, you will arrive in time to enjoy a late lunch at your Arusha based Hotel. Relax until late afternoon before commencing a City Tour. Arusha, also known as "A" Town by the locals, is located in the northern highlands of Tanzania, beneath the twin peaks of Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro. Such altitude gives the city a pleasant year round climate with a lush green environment.

Arusha city, declared as a “The Geneva of Africa” by former US president Hon Mr. Bill Clinton, hosts major international diplomatic and social organs such as East African Community, International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, Compassion International and World Vision.

Your tour includes the National Museum, Uhuru monument and the colourful Maasai market. Coffee lovers will delight in a visit to one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations.

Returning around 7pm for dinner and overnight in your hotel.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

An early start today with a full breakfast before heading west with your packed lunch across the valley’s rim to the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, Africa’s “Garden of Eden”, one of the largest extinct volcanic craters in the world - a whopping 19.2 km in diameter. Declared a world heritage site in 1978, it is undoubtedly one of the most impressive attractions of Africa, and one of the worlds greatest wildlife locations.

As you descend into the Crater, which at first appears to be a vast blue lake, you’ll discover a natural amphitheater, teeming with game. Rich pastures and permanent water supports a large resident population of wildlife - up to 30000 animals and home to one of the highest densities of lions in Africa. This is perhaps the best location to view the famous Black Rhino. Swamps and lush forest provide resources for hippo, elephant, waterbuck, reedbuck, bushbuck, baboons and vervet monkeys. Predatory animals - including the lion, leopard, cheetah and serval cats live off the abundant wildlife. Colourful flamingoes and a variety of other water birds flock around the crater’s lake.

Your game drive in the crater lasts till evening, finishing high on the Crater’s rim for dinner and overnight in the spectacularly designed Ngorongoro Serena (or similar) Lodge.

Day 3:Serengeti

Having enjoyed a full breakfast, we depart on our 130km journey to Serengeti National Park. Declared by UNESCO as one of the World heritage Sites, the Serengeti National Park at 14,700 sq km is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and breathtaking displays of wildlife.

Arriving at the park’s entrance you shall commence an en route game drive to Serengeti Serena lodge. Check in, lunch and relax until 4pm before commencing your evening game drive.

The Serengeti, known by the Maasai people as “siringit - endless plains” is an African paradise that contains one of the oldest eco-systems on earth. Amazingly, the fauna, climate and vegetation have barely changed in the past million years. The plains host the world famous great wildebeest migration, estimated to include over a million wildebeest and around 200,000 zebra. However, when witnessing this magical event they seem far greater in numbers. These great herds are engaged in a never ending journey through diverse landscapes, so strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, pride of lion or crocodile infested river can hold them back.

Returning around 6.30 pm to Seronera Wildlife Lodge (or similar) for dinner and lodging.

Day 4: Serengeti - Hot Air Balloon Safari

At 5am you will be transferred to our launch site near Maasai Kopjes. Here you will meet your pilot, receive a briefing and watch the inflation of your balloon. Taking off at dawn, rising with the sun and floating in whichever direction the morning winds take us. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. At other times he will ascend to 1000' or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot must put more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds below.

After flying for approximately one hour, depending on conditions, you will land and celebrate in the traditional manner with champagne (well, an excellent sparkling wine) before sitting down to a full English breakfast under the shade of a classic umbrella tree. By mid morning you shall return to the lodge for a period of relaxation and lunch until your evening game drive commences at 4pm. Returning to Serengeti Serena (or similar lodge) at 6.30 pm for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Lake Manyara

Having enjoyed your full breakfast we journey to beautiful Lake Manyara, home to an incredible array of bird life. In excess of 400 species have been recorded on this alkaline soda lake, including thousands of link-hued flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, herons, egrets, stilts, stalks, spoonbills and yellow billed storks.

The park’s entrance gate marks the commencement of your en route game drive to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. Check in at around 1pm then lunch and relax till 4pm before commencing your evening shore line game drive.

Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, breathtaking views and incredible ecological variety in a relatively small area (330 km2), rich in both wildlife and birdlife. The Park is home to a large elephant population and is most famous for its tree-climbing lion. Huge troops of baboons, often numbering in the hundreds are widely regarded as the largest in Africa. Game including buffalo, wilderbeest, giraffe, zebra, warthog, impala, Kirk’s dik-dik, waterbuck and klipspringer are often spotted.

Returning to the lodge around 6.30pm for dinner and overnight.

Day 6:Tarangire

Waking at 6.00 am, you will enjoy a full breakfast before traveling the 90 odd kms to Tarangire National Reserve. Arriving at the park’s entrance gate we shall commence an en route game drive to your lodging at Tarangire Safari Lodge where a delicious buffet lunch awaits. Relax until 4.00 pm before proceeding on your evening game drive.

One of Africa’s little-known gems, Tarangire offers picturesque views of savannah lands, acacia stands, clusters of baobab trees and large herds of elephant and buffalo. Home to both tree climbing lions and pythons and over 500 species of birds, much of the park is grassland with swamplands and flood plains feeding the Tarangire River.

Tarangire contains nine different vegetation zones, each supporting distinctly different types of wildlife. During the dry season, the Tarangire River which runs through the parks centre, supports elephant, lions, cheetahs, leopard, zebra, klipspringer, dik-dik, kudus, oryx, warthogs, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffe, baboons and hippos. At its best, the game in Tarangire can be excellent.

Your evening game drive complete and we return to the Safari Lodge for a 3-course meal and overnight stay.

Day 7: Tarangire - Mombasa

Wake at 6.00 am to enjoy your extensive breakfast buffet. Served under the vaulted ceiling of the open-aired dining room you will take in great views of the landscape below before departing Tanzania for your Kenyan coastal accommodation.

Stopping in Voi, Kenya, for lunch we shall drive approximately 400 kms, arriving late evening in Mombasa.

As with all our safaris, timings, modes of transport and destinations can be adjusted to suit your individual requirements. Wherever possible we endeavor to support local businesses in order to build a sustainable Africa.
