Kenya Adventures - Golfing Safari

Perhaps Kenya's best kept secret. Few places in the world offer such a fantastic golf holiday. Play your favorite game, view wildlife and relax on the dazzling white sandy beaches. 10 of Kenya's 40 golf courses host championship events. And, due to its situation on the equator, golfing in Kenya is an all-year-round affair.

Day 1
Arriving in Nairobi you are met and transferred to the majestic Windsor Golf and Country Club. Here you may wish to spend the day relaxing following your flight, enjoying a round of golf or exploring the vibrant city. The Windsor offers a breathtakingly beautiful oasis of comfort and tranquility. Set in its own 200 acre grounds surrounded by coffee plantations and with views to Mount Kenya and the sacred Maasai Buffalo Mountain in the distance. Its prime location and altitude gives The Windsor the feeling of an everlasting spring evening all year round. For the nature lover, The Windsor offers organized ornithological walks with an ornithologist; including visits to their own Mika Coffee Estate.

Day 2
Well and truly relaxed now, you enjoy a full day of golf. Designed by Tom Macauley, the course threads its way through coffee farms and a tropical indigenous forest. Boasting lush spring fairways, fast, true greens and a sprinkling of water hazards with 73 well located sand bunkers. The club is host to a colony of Sykes monkeys who although not always fully engrossed certainly make for unusual spectators. The Windsor offers one of - if not the - best 18 hole championship golf courses in Africa. The property is also a natural sanctuary for birds such as Egyptian geese, black kites, egrets and of course the brown eagles soaring over the fairways.

Day 3
Following Breakfast you will depart Nairobi for a 1½ hour drive to The Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort. Golf on the equator might not immediately strike everyone as a feasible possibility, but at 4000 feet above sea level, on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, with greens watered from a nearby freshwater lake and views of flamingos from the 18th hole is certainly some of the most exciting 'safari golf' possible to find.

Day 4
A morning of golf offers stunning views and early risers the possibility of encountering a hippo strolling languidly across the fairway. After lunch we make the 1 hour drive to Lake Nakuru. There, black and white rhinos roam amongst the millions of flamingoes, and the occasional lion and leopard. Your night will be spent in either the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Lake Nakuru Lodge where you enjoy a dusk game drive before your evening meal.

Day 5
Your early morning dawn game drive precedes a hearty breakfast. Following which you are free to relax by the pool before a midday departure to 'The Ark'. Set in the Aberdare National Park, 'The Ark' overlooks the Yasabara waterhole, perhaps the largest salt-lick in the Aberdare Mountains and the haunt of a variety of forest game unequalled in Africa. This tree-lodge is uniquely shaped to resemble the actual Ark, designed with decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for viewing the animals visiting the salt-lick and waterhole. A ground-level bunker provides excellent photographic opportunities, and the Yasabara waterhole is floodlit by night to enable all-night viewing of game.

Day 6
An early morning game drive culminates with breakfast before a mid morning departure to the Mt. Kenya Safari Club. Nowhere in the world do you come face to face with one of nature's greatest anomalies - a snowcapped mountain lying on the equator! This exclusive rich man's retreat opened in 1959. Despite the fact that this is a 9 - hole pitch and putt, composed entirely of par 3 holes, it is absolutely brutal. While the course is laid out on one of the most beautiful and serene settings in Africa, you have to be very accurate. The water hazards are many and coupling with the splendid views of Mount Kenya from virtually every hole on the course with the variety of flowers and birds decorating it, the golfer is sure to leave Mt. Kenya with lasting memories.

Day 7
Today is spent either on the course or lazing by the pool before your afternoon flight to Mombasa. Depending on your personal preference, you will be transferred to your resort on either the North or South Coast. Although we can provide accommodation in any of Mombasa's many fine coastal resorts, Juletabi recommends just 3. These sites were chosen after our personal visits and we believe are uncompromising in value, location and most importantly atmosphere. Choose between the Severin Sea Lodge, Voyager Lodge or Leopard Beach Resort. For those who wish the ultimate chill in a private secluded hilltop hideaway overlooking the Mwalugange Elephant Sanctuary with your own personal chef and butler, Kutazama will leave you breathless.

Days 8-10
From your resort accommodation on Mombasa's golden coast you are free to enjoy the numerous activities on offer or just relax and enjoy the local Kenyan hospitality. Kenya is the supreme outdoors destination. Fishing is encouraged and has taken over from the pasts hunting. Fish in the morning and you can expect to grapple with barracudas, king-fish, tunas, marlins and sailfish. Explore the coral beds with either a scuba diving or snorkelling experience. Water skiing, jet skiing, kite surfing and sailing are all popular activities. Mombasa boasts many fine restaurants. Large succulent spiny lobsters, superb shrimp and prawns, kingfish and swordfish are all coastal specialities. If you have an urge for discotheques or night clubs, you will find them scattered along the coast. For those wishing to taste Mombasa's coastal golf, Leisure Lodge Golf Resorts 18 hole par 72 championship course is easily arranged. Whatever your desire, Mombasa is sure to delight.

Day 11
Check out and transfer to Moi International Airport for your return flight to Nairobi and onward home journey. Depending on connections and preference an additional night's stay in Nairobi is optional.
